School overview and provisional program

The School focuses on contemporary biophysical topics. The selected subjects will draw young researchers' attention to frontier research issues of considerable scientific and educational impact. The School will be held in the magnificent Palazzo Franchetti, the premises of the "Istituto di Scienze Lettere ed Arti" located in the historical centre of Venice, close to Canal Grande and Accademia (Palazzo Cavalli-Franchetti).

The focus of the 2016 School is Molecular and biophysical aspects of photosynthesis.

Photosynthesis converts solar energy into chemical energy and support most living organisms on Earth. Also biomass produced by photosynthetic organisms was converted into fossil fuels, that now supply energy to power most human activities. The school will cover the most recent knowledge on the features of the photosynthetic machinery apparatus and its regulation. it will cover in particular structure of photosystems, regulation of electron and proton transport, light harvesting and photo-protection, carbon fixation and photorespiration.

Maximum 35 students will be admitted to the school. Applications are encouraged from young scientists (PhD students and postdocs) interested in the topics of the school.

A poster session will be held for students to present their activity but the presentation of a poster is not mandatory.

The participation fee is 350 Euro which includes five nights' accommodation and attendance at the lessons.

The fee for students who do not need accommodation is 165 Euros.

Deadline for registration 4th December 2015.

Applicants are admitted to the school by the Scientific Committee based on the information provided on the application form (short curriculum). The results of the selection will be individually communicated by e-mail.
Payment must be performed within two weeks of notification of admission.
Applications are encouraged from all young scientists (PhD students and post doctors) interested in the topics of the school.

  2. current position
  3. name of reference person (e.g. supervisor)
  4. preliminary poster title (not mandatory)
